Biodiversity
Although, mainly,
a plantation Marros south has many open areas with a variety of habitats and
a surprising abundance of wildlife. Full systematic surveys for the different
taxa will commence in April 2007. Eventually all taxa will be recorded annually
and a full biodiversity management plan will be developed for the site.
Some
of the species currently growing on, resident or visiting the site include:
Numerous Fungi, Lichens, Pteridophytes & Bryophytes; a large Insect and
Arachnid fauna, including 9 species of Odonata and numerous Lepidoptera. Bluebells
are abundant on some areas of the site. Also recorded are: Bats, Tawny Owl,
Barn Owl, Raven, Buzzard, Woodpecker, Jay, Polecat, Stoat, Weasel, Wood Mouse,
Bank Vole, Common Shrew, Common Frog, Common Toad, Common Lizard, Slow Worm,
Grass Snake?, Adder and Otter.
