Open Day

Open Day 28th June 2008

Over 150 people from the local area enjoyed the Open Day on the 28th June Held at Coed Marros Permaculture woodland project. Folk of all ages and walks of life got stuck into woodcarving with chisels, learning Bushcraft and whole families played together in the Forest School games sessions. The guided trails and storytelling walks were particularly popular and a great way to celebrate the new paths made by the volunteers who run Coed Marros Cooperative.

A demo of mule logging illustrated the blending of traditional and 20th century innovations that Coed Marros will employ to sustainably manage the woods. The weather was fine and everyone enjoyed home made cakes and refreshments supplied by the local school children who managed to raise over £80 in a fundraising bid to buy equipment for their Forest School.

“It was not just a great educational experience but also a fantastic social gathering.” Aid Louise Stone, local resident and teacher of Tremoilet Primary School.

“Inspiring and a valuable asset to the local community”

“A wonderful place, full of life, ideas and great achievements in such a short space of time, keep up the good work!” Ms Gear volunteer and visitor to Coed Marros

“We were very happy with the turn out, lots of new faces and families bringing friends. Many of the children who have been coming to Forest School sessions from Llanmiloe and Tremoilet Primary school brought along their parents to enjoy the woodland.” Said Caz Phillips member of the Cooperative. “ This woodland is a real gift and we hope to share it with as many people as possible. The views out to Caldey Island are stunning. Over the summer we hope to bring parents and children together to enjoy the woodlands and help us look after this special place. If anyone is interested in getting involved or would like to know more please check out our website www.coedmarros.com for details of courses and future events.

If anyone has any photos of the day please send them onto us at info@coedmarros.com.
